Skin tumors are among the most common cancers that afflict humans. Melanoma, Basal Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinomas may have significant disability and morbidity if not properly treated. Many individuals often ignore these tumors and do not seek medical attention in a timely manner. The tumor becomes large making it difficult to excise and close primarily. On occasion the lesion is excised but with minimal margins because the treating physician fears he or she may cause tissue distortion or place too much tension on the incision line. With early intervention and adequate surgical treatment the recurrence of these tumors should be essentially eliminated. Surgical excision of these tumors can be done with immediate pathologic examination of the specimen insuring removal of the tumor in its entirety. The defect can then be closed with rotation-advancement flaps or skin graft thereby avoiding distortion of the surrounding tissues or tension on the closure. With Plastic surgery one can treat Skin cancer so that it never comes back.
